National AIDS Programme, Cyprus

A National AIDS programme has continued to be implemented according to the principle of prevention of the transmission of the virus and a reduction of social and personal consequences of HIV- infection. Prostitutes are offered the opportunity to get condoms for free in order to protect themselves from HIV and STD´s.

The strategic plan for this programme states that “HIV risk and vulnerability are closely linked to lifestyle and the socio-economic and demographic environment”. Moreover, a study of socio-economic impact of HIV-infection will be conducted within the programme.
