Mental health decreasing among young people, stable among adults in the Netherlands
New data from Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) shows declining mental health among young people in the Netherlands, with rising loneliness, stress, and suicidal thoughts. GP visits for suicide are 70% higher than before COVID-19. Adult mental health remains mostly stable, though GP visits for fatigue and concentration problems are increasing.
These findings come from the GOR Network’s Integrated Health Monitor COVID-19 (2021–2025), tracking pandemic impacts on mental and physical health to support evidence-based policymaking.
