Healthy Lives, Healthy People White Paper: Our Strategy for Public Health in England

England: The Healthy Lives, healthy people White Paper sets out the Government’s strategy during the current Parliamentary term and responds to the Marmot Review. The White Paper adopts a life-course framework for tackling the wider social determinants of health, as well as empowering individuals to make healthy choices. With its aim to put local community at the heart of Public Health, the White Paper outlines cross-Government strategies that will enable local communities to reduce inequalities and improve health. It adopts the Marmot Review formula of “proportionate universalism” in tackling health inequalities. A new integrated public health service, Public Health England, will be set up in 2012.
