Survey: Health among the youngest needs to be improved

A new survey by the Swedish Public Health Agency shows that health challenges among the youngest in the population are unequally distributed, emphasising the need for follow-ups of children’s health from a young age.

Young children in Sweden are generally in good health. Infant mortality is low and the general state of health is reported to be good for most people. At the same time, the survey shows that far too many children under the age of six have health challenges, for example through overweight, asthma and tooth decay.

According to the report, up to half of the children under the age of six may have lifestyle habits or living conditions that increase the risk of ill health. Up to one in four children also do not seem to receive the child healthcare recommended in the national child health care program.
