Adequate Minimum Wages Directive: already a game-changer in one third of Member States

This ETUI Policy Brief highlights the early impact of the Adequate Minimum Wages Directive on minimum wage-setting across several EU Member States even before its formal implementation deadline on 15 November 2024. Notably, 15 out of 22 EU countries with statutory minimum wages have seen significant nominal increases. This trend is attributed to both high inflation rates across the EU and the Directive’s “double decency threshold,” defined in terms of the indicative reference values of 60% of the median wage and 50% of the average wage.
