With Migrants, for Migrants – Intercultural Health Germany

The MiMi intercultural health project promotes migrants´ health by means of multi-language and culture sensitive interventions in education on health and prevention. One out of every seven persons in Germany has an immigration background. While different groups of migrants are different in many ways, life in a foreign culture goes along with social and psychological challenges. Resulting stress situations paired with low socio-economic status and financial deprivation have a negative impact on health. Apart from that and furthermore migrants are not yet acquainted with coventions of the German health system and therefore often do not get appropriate help as soon as possible. MiMi aims at producing relief by creating a new awareness of everybody´s responsibility of one´s own health by providing information on healthy living and how to deal with the German health system and how to make use of its offers – in migrants´ native languages and with respect to their cultural roots.
