WHO, Health Promotion Glossary of terms 2021

The World Health Organization (WHO) updated its Health Promotion Glossary in 2021. It offers a contemporary overview of the many concepts and terms that have become fundamental for the development of health promotion in responding to new needs and new emergencies that affect the well-being and quality of life of people, local communities and society. The definitions have been written with extensive consultation between professionals from different disciplines, in order to make them understandable and usable by the community of professionals, researchers and decision-makers and by the widest possible public. The Glossary is a useful tool for consultation and inspiration, in particular (but not only) for healthcare professionals involved in the design, conduct and evaluation of the project actions envisaged by the National Prevention Plan 2020-2025 and in the related regional and local plans.

An Italian translation of the WHO glossary was edited by DoRS Regione Piemonte in collaboration with the Lombardy Region through the ATS Metropolitan City of Milan – SC Regional Service for the Support of Health Promotion Plans and Programs and Health Documentation Activities – “Health Promotion” Regional Unit. The translation itself thus also becomes a tangible sign of collaboration between institutions in favour of building a network of knowledge and skills for the right to health and health promotion. Access the Italian translation here.
