Portuguese National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge

The National Institute of Health (Portuguese: Instituto Nacional de Saúde) Doutor Ricardo Jorge is a public body within the indirect administration of the State, under the Ministry of Health, endowed with scientific autonomy, technical, administrative, financial and own assets.

Founded in 1899 by the doctor and humanist Ricardo Jorge as a laboratory arm of the Portuguese health system, the Ricardo Jorge Institute develops a threefold mission as State laboratory in the health sector, the national reference laboratory and national health observatory.
