In Europe, income and wealth inequality has been rising since the 1970s. Although overall, globalisation has reduced the income and wealth gaps between countries, inequality has often risen within countries. These economic inequalities have severe economic, social and political repercussions, and also raise ethical concerns, and calls to policy makers to address this issue are getting louder.
