Economic Consequences of COVID-19 Pandemic Outbreak on Health Indicators and Health Service Use in Wales

This report from Public Health Wales has reiterated the links between unemployment and illness. Based on an estimated increase in unemployment from 3.8 in 2019 to 7 percent in 2020, the report predicts that the proportion of the population suffering from longstanding illnesses could increase from 46.4 percent before the pandemic to 50.3 in 2022/23. The report aims to inform decision-making for the coronavirus response and recovery and to mitigate harmful impacts of unemployment on population and individual health.
