Health inequalities and anti-poverty strategies are defined at national level. The mayor cities have health units, which seek to integrate initiatives to reduce health inequalities into citizen services.

Policy responses

As an example, the Belfast Health Development Unit aims to reduce the health gaps in Belfast. The Unit promotes cross-sectoral collaboration to address the social, economic and environmental factors that cause the inequalities.
